Gil Powers Revolution’s Remarkable Comeback

Trailing 3-0 after 55 minutes of action, the New England Revolution, behind the stellar play of captain Carles Gil, staged a comeback previously unseen in club history, scoring three times to earn a 3-3 draw against the Colorado Rapids at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night. With the draw, the Revolution (24 points, 6-6-6) continued to climb closer to an Audi MLS Cup Playoffs position, sitting just four points below the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference table.

In the 58th minute, Gil recovered from a turnover in his own half and fired a left-footed shot into the box, which was then deflected into goal by Rapids defender Sam Vines to cut the deficit to two (Watch Here). Colorado held onto a two-goal advantage until the 86th minute, when Gil stepped to the penalty spot and converted, trimming the lead to one (Watch Here). Seven minutes later, Tanner Beason found the head of a leaping Maxi Urruti in the box, who powered in the equalizer in the 90’+3’ (Watch Here). With the draw, the Revolution overcame a three-goal, second-half deficit to earn a point for the first time in club history.

The Revolution, which have earned points in 10 of their last 12 matches, travel west to take on the Portland Timbers on Saturday evening (10:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).

In addition to Ángel’s heroics, Dreyer continues to make his case for the Landon Donovan MLS MVP, as he leads the league with 23 goal contributions (nine goals, 14 assists), including helpers on San Diego’s second and third goals of the evening. Dreyer has recorded three goal contributions in three consecutive matches and joined Lionel Messi as the only players in MLS to record at least three goal contributions in three straight games since the start of the 2024 season.

San Diego will look to extend its four-game winning streak as the club welcomes Houston Dynamo FC to Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday night (10:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).

Surridge’s Score Proves Winner for Surging Nashville SC

A lone goal from Golden Boot presented by Audi lead Sam Surridge was all Nashville SC needed, as the club secured a 1-0 victory over D.C. United at Audi Field on Saturday night. Nashville (38 points, 10-3-7) extended its club-record unbeaten streak to 11 matches with the win and continued its climb up the Supporters’ Shield standings, sitting in fourth place.

With his penalty-kick goal in the first half, Surridge became the first player in club history to score in six consecutive matches, breaking a tie with Hany Mukhtar (five straight in 2022), who took home Landon Donovan MLS MVP honors that season. The 26-year-old Englishman owns a three-goal lead in the race for the Golden Boot presented by Audi with 16 scores this season, three ahead of Philadelphia’s Tai Baribo (13).

Surridge’s 16 goals through the club’s first 20 games of a season are tied for the sixth-most in MLS history, trailing only Carlos Vela (19 in 2019), Josef Martinez (18 in 2018), Chris Wondolowski (17 in 2012), Bradley Wright-Phillips (17 in 2014), and Mamadou Diallo (17 in 2000). All five of those players went on to win the Golden Boot in their respective seasons.

Nashville will look to extend its unbeaten run to 12 matches on Saturday, as the club welcomes the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union to GEODIS Park in a critical conference clash (8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).
